CEO & Scientific Head of Functional Motion Laboratory -Return to Play (Germany)
Having graduated from German sports university of Cologne with a diploma in sports science, Christian as a sports scientist focusses on sports rehabilitation, biomechanics and performance diagnostics. His main field of research contains the concept of return to play, including sports specific injury mechanisms, risk assessment and pre-injury screening. Within this the focus is set on return to play after ACL injury in athletes from Bundesliga, first national handball team and alpine skiing.
In collaboration with his brother, Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. Thore Zantop (sporthopaedicum Straubing), Christian developed a functional ACL test battery for the assessment of sports specific manoeuvres that are close to the injury mechanism. Maintaining close cooperations with other leading orthopedic surgeons and clinics in Germany, such as the sporthopaedicum Straubing, Regensburg, Berlin and Munich, their working philosophy is to measure sport specific performance parameters in combination with high-end biomechanics to determine whether a player is objectively ready to return to play.
In the last years, RTP-Lab has successfully screened and returned hundreds of athletes, from amateur athletes to players of the 1st German Bundesliga (football) and the German national team (handball). Being an official reference center for the German national insurances, both take part in several leading comparative studies in the study field return to play as well as ACL-Testing of professional athletes.
